LINDENBURY, one of Mount Macedon's exquisite garden properties, is on the market. The house was built about 30 years ago by Mrs Manifold, a member of the Western District pastoralist family that founded Purrumbete farming complex and built its arts and crafts mansion. The story goes that Mrs Manifold fell in love with a house she saw in France and set about recreating it at 768 Mount Macedon Road. Subsequent owners have put their own stamp on the place but it retains its French provincial character.A formal drawing room and a more casual living and dining area look out to an exquisite parterre garden. Two bedrooms and a bathroom are in a ground-floor wing and upstairs is the main bedroom with its en suite, walk-in wardrobe and a study. A Juliet balcony has views to Melbourne. Magnificent gardens surround the house. The block is about 1.5 hectares and one-third is mature European gardens with superb trees, dry-stone walls and topiary. The rest is bushland leading to a creek.Joan Gladman Real Estate has Lindenbury for private sale for $1.65 million.
